2 cups raspberries (fresh or frozen) 2 cups water 1 Tbsp floral tea* (dried rose petals, hibiscus, chamomile, etc) 2 cups sugar 2 liters carbonated water

Spices: For regular healing potion: ½ tsp ground ginger For greater healing potion: ¼ tsp ground clove For superior healing potion: ¼ tsp smoked paprika For supreme healing potion: 1/8 tsp ground cayenne pepper

½ tsp pearl dust** For regular healing potion: pink pearl dust For greater healing potion: white pearl dust For superior healing potion: silver pearl dust For supreme healing potion: gold pearl dust

*The floral tea I used in this batch was a combination of hibiscus petals, lemon peel, orange peel, rose hips, and rose petals.

**Pearl dust is a powdered food coloring, made with mica powder, used to decorate pastries. It is shimmery, and not to be confused with color dust, which is powdered food coloring that is not pearlescent. It is also called luster dust in different brands.

Combine raspberries, water, floral tea, and spice over high heat in a large pan. Bring to a boil, then lower to medium heat to maintain a boil for 25 minutes.

Put a fine mesh strainer, or a colander lined with cheesecloth, over a tall bowl or pitcher. Pour the mixture into the strainer and let it slowly strain through gravity, without pressing the mixture.

Eventually, after an hour or more, you should have about 1 ½ cups of syrup.

Remove and reserve 2 cups of carbonated water from its bottle. Add the pearl dust into the bottle, then pour the raspberry syrup into the bottle. Top off any empty space with the reserved carbonated water. Screw on the lid and gently tilt the bottle back and forth to mix it.

3 cups strawberries, leaves removed & cut in half 2 Tbsp honey 2 Tbsp sugar 1 ¾ cup (14 oz) coconut milk

Cook the honey, sugar, and strawberries over medium-high heat until thickened and mushy. Mash the strawberries, or puree them if you desire a smooth consistency. Chill until completely cold.

In a large bowl, stir together the strawberry mixture with the coconut milk. If the coconut milk has separated, beat it until it's homogenous, before adding the strawberries. Beat the ingredients together until smooth.

Churn according to the directions of your ice cream machine.

Bread: 2 tsp dry yeast or .6 oz cake yeast 2 tsp sugar 2 cups warm water or soup stock 1 Tbsp salt 4 cups flour 1 tiny pinch of lavender buds ½ tsp fennel seed 1 tsp thyme

Filling: 1 pound ground sausage ¾ cup grated or minced onion ¼ cup grated carrot 1 tsp minced garlic ½ cup (4 oz) cream cheese

1 egg for glaze

Stir together the sugar, yeast, and water/vegetable stock. Stir in the flour, 1 cup at a time. With the last cup, add in the salt and herbs. Knead on a floured countertop until the dough is smooth and less sticky. Coat the dough with oil, place in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let the dough rise for 30 minutes.

While the dough is rising, cook the sausage, onion, carrot, and garlic in a pot over medium heat. Cook until the sausage is mostly browned. Some pink is ok, as it will be cooked again. Cut the cream cheese into chunks and stir it into the meat mixture.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the dough out into a rectangle taking up the whole space of the baking sheet, then place the filling along the middle 1/3 of the dough, leaving about 1 ½ inches of free space at the ends. Cut slashes along the sides of the dough.

Fold the short ends over the filling, then fold each fringe piece of dough over the middle, alternating sides and stretching at a diagonal to create a braided look. Pinch closed any large gaps in the dough. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise another 30 minutes. Towards the end, set the oven to preheat to 350° F.

When the dough is done rising, beat an egg and brush it all over the loaf.

Bake for 20-25 minutes.

Cake:

1 cup butter, softened 2 cups sugar ¾ cup buttermilk 1/3 cup lime juice 5 eggs 3 cups flour 1 ½ tsp salt ½ tsp baking powder ½ tsp baking soda

Preheat oven to 350° F. Line bottoms of 2 cake tins with parchment, and grease the sides of the tins.

In a small bowl, combine buttermilk and lime juice. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating in each egg completely before adding the next one.

In another bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Stir 1/3 of the flour mixture into the egg mixture. Then stir in ½ of the buttermilk mixture, then flour again, buttermilk again, and flour again. Do not overmix.

Spoon batter into prepared pans. Bake 30-35 minutes, testing with a toothpick for doneness.

After removing from oven, let the cake rest in the pans for 15 minutes before inverting onto a rack to cool completely.

Filling:

6 Tbsp cream cheese ¼ cup softened butter ½ tsp vanilla extract ½ tsp fresh, grated lime zest ¼ cup honey

Beat together all filling ingredients until fluffy. Keep chilled until time to use.

When the cake is totally cooled, smooth the filling onto one of the cake layers. Place the other layer on top.

Frosting:

½ cup sugar ¼ cup honey 2 Tbsp water 1 tsp fresh, grated lime zest 2 egg whites at room temperature

Mix the sugar, honey, water, and lime zest in a saucepan. Heat to a rolling boil over medium heat. Keep boiling until it reaches 242° F on a candy thermometer.

In a large bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Pour the boiling syrup slowly in a thin stream into the egg whites, beating constantly on medium speed. Then beat on high speed until stiff peaks form.

Spread the frosting over the top and sides of the cake.

2 tsp yeast 2 tsp sugar 2 cups warm water 4 cups whole wheat flour 1 Tbsp salt 1/3 cup ground flax seed

Dissolve the yeast and sugar into ¾ cup of warm water.

In a large bowl, stir together the flour, salt, and flax seed. When the yeast is foamy, add that to the flour, as well as the rest of the water. Stir it together, then turn out onto the counter to knead it. Use flour if necessary. Knead it thoroughly, until the dough stretches rather than tears when it is pulled.

Coat the inside of the bowl and the dough with oil. Put the dough in the bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.

Knead the dough a bit, and shape into a log. Oil the inside of the bread pan and place the dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 30 minutes.

Spray the inside of the cold oven with water and place the bread pan in the center of the oven. Turn the oven to 350° F. Bake for 40-45 minutes (including pre-heating time), until the crust is a deep golden brown on top, and golden brown on the sides and bottom.

¾ cup sugar 2 Tbsp arrowroot powder 1 ½ cups orange juice 3 egg yolks 2 large oranges, or 6 clementines or tangerines 2 Tbsp butter 1 Tbsp grated orange peel 1 Tbsp lemon juice

1 deep-dish, 9” pie crust, baked

Meringue: 3 egg whites 2 Tbsp sugar

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Grate the peel of an orange to get 1 Tbsp of orange zest (only the very outer layer of the peel, no white pith). Then peel the oranges, discard the peel, seeds, and as much pith as possible, and puree the oranges and orange zest in a blender. Chop the butter into small cubes. In a bowl, combine the orange puree, butter, and lemon juice.

Separate the eggs. Beat the egg yolks until smooth. Place the egg whites somewhere warm.

In a large pot, stir together the arrowroot and sugar. Stir in the orange juice. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat to low.

Pour a small amount of hot filling into the egg yolks, stirring as you pour. Then pour the yolk mixture back into the pan, stirring constantly as you pour.

Remove from heat. Stir in the pureed orange mixture. Pour into pie crust.

In a small mixing bowl, beat egg whites on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, 1 tsp at a time, beating on high until stiff glossy peaks form and sugar is dissolved. Spread evenly over hot filling, sealing edges to crust.

Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until meringue is golden brown. Let cool in the fridge until completely chilled before serving. The longer it has time to chill, the more solid the filling becomes.

Crust: 1 cup semola flour 1 Tbsp sugar 1 tiny pinch of saffron 1/8 tsp salt 6 Tbsp butter ¼ cup water

Filling: 6 egg yolks 1 Tbsp water ½ tsp gelatin ¼ cup sugar ½ tsp powdered ginger ¼ cup minced dates ¼ cup minced raisins, dried currant berries, or similar

For the crust: Stir together the flour, sugar, saffron, and salt. Cut in the butter until it creates moist crumbs, leaving some small chunks of butter. Stir in the water, forming a dough. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the fridge while making the filling.

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Dissolve the gelatin in the water. Beat together the egg yolks, gelatin, sugar, and powdered ginger until the mixture is very light, as light as you can reasonably get it. Then stir in the dates and raisins.

Divide the crust dough into 12 pieces, 6 of them slightly smaller than the others. Roll the larger balls out into circles and line 6 cups in a mini tart pan. Put about 2 Tbsp of filling into each cup—there will be a little extra, so divide it evenly. Then roll the smaller balls of dough to make top crusts. Leave a little bit of space, if you can, between the filling and the top crust.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.

1 double batch of pie crust dough ½ cup sugar ¼ cup arrowroot powder ½ tsp cinnamon 4 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen) 1 Tbsp butter 1 tsp lemon juice

Preheat oven to 400° F.

Prepare the bottom pie crust in the pie tin.

Stir together the sugar and arrowroot powder. Cut the butter into the mixture until it is no longer dry. Stir in the cinnamon and lemon juice, then gently stir in the blueberries, to coat them.

Pour the filling mixture into the pie tin.

Place remaining pie crust on top, seal and flute edges. Slit the top crust a few times for steam to escape. Or do a decorative top crust with holes in it.

Place a pie shield or strips of foil around edges before baking. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until juices begin to bubble through slits, removing foil or shield at around 25 minutes into baking.

Cool completely before cutting.
